@blairmacintyre Indeed, so I have looked at it: - Firefox blocks GA in private browsing (not otherwise if you are just on "Standard" level in Enhanced Tracking Protection) - Safari doesn't block GA, even in private browsing. I believe Safari ITP is "only" cleaning up cookies & other identifiers

@blairmacintyre The Google tracking (GA, Ad Manager...) is also happening in other browsers private mode. This is more an issue of confusing labeling/explanations on what private mode does (and browsers private mode could implement an ad/tracking blocker to be cleaner)

@neil_neilzone Thanks! The legal filing is not really helping to understand the issue as you said. It’s not only chrome related, as you would need Tor, a VPN or an ad-blocker with the right filter list to be protected against IP tracking

@neil_neilzone How is Tor protecting against cookies? I thought it was “only” used to mask IPs. And Chrome private browsing should protect against cookies (it already cleaned them at the end of the session, now with Chrome 83, it blocks 3rd party cookies).

@johnwilander The legal filing mention the IPs sent in the requests (not a “Chrome-only” problem) and the Chrome header (I believe the HTTP x-client-data?!), but it’s not sent in Incognito mode

@johnwilander There is no detail in the article. Is it because Chrome incognito mode didn’t block third-party cookies (before Chrome 83)? They weren’t saved at the end of the session, so it wasn’t that bad, but indeed and as usual, Chrome is late

@niko_jaimes Pour la finalité 3, Google ne veut sans doute pas prendre de risques. Accepter la synchro cookies pour du RTB, cela veut potentiellement dire que Google doit maintenir une table de correspondance pour l’utilisateur (un profil)

2) Pour être transparent, reCaptcha est apparu lorsque que j'ai cliqué sur "J'active StopCovid", j'avais un VPN activé (reCaptcha ne devrait pas apparaître à beaucoup d'utilisateurs)
